What Inspired Jacob to Become a Sports Coach?
The reason I am pursuing a career in sports coaching is that I’ve always enjoyed playing all types of sports and had good coaches on the way, so I want to be able to give back to the next upcoming generation. I want them to enjoy the sport I am coaching and also learn as many things as possible as well.
Jacob’s Proudest Achievement in Sports
A memorable experience for me was when I made my semi-professional cricket debut and got my academy contract in the same year. They are my two proudest achievements to date.
Building Teamwork Among Young Athletes
The way I approach teamwork with the children is to focus on creating an enjoyable and engaging environment; whether attending a holiday camp or in primary schools, as long as they are having fun and feel comfortable with one another, teamwork and collaboration will naturally follow.
Skills Focused on by Jacob
The skills I tend to look at the most are hand-eye coordination, active listening, communication, and positivity as this will allow them to get the best out of my coaching lessons, allowing me to develop them further as athletes.
Balancing Fun and Competition in Sports Coaching
The way I mix both fun and competition when I’m coaching, during warm-ups I try to make them both fun and competitive as this will allow for the athletes to become engaged and want to do it more. I also create little mini-games when coaching as this will allow athletes to try harder which ultimately allows them to achieve more in my lessons.
Advice for Aspiring Coaches
My advice to others is to stay relaxed and coach in a way that feels authentic to you, as this will foster creativity. Don’t hesitate to reach out to other coaches for ideas on techniques or use coaching resources on reliable industry websites.
